Botanic Lights 2016, Edinburgh

The other weekend we went down to the Botanic Gardens here in Edinburgh at night!! All for the purposes of seeing this year's Botanic Lights 2016. Botanic Lights are a series of light installations dotted around the gardens, currently running nightly until Sunday 6 November 2016.

I'm not sure how many years previously this event has taken place but this year's takes the theme of the regions of the world giving you the chance to explore by night via the lights the plants and trees originating from places such as the US, China, Chile, Nepal and the tropics where many of the Royal Botanic Gardens scientists are working on important conservation work. The message behind it all being, 'to explore, conserve and explain the world of plants for a better future'. Luckily on the night we visited it was fresh but not too cold but yes my time spent in the tropics is starting to show now the colder weather is making an appearance and as it's an all weather event in Scotland …

Mote Park, Maidstone, Kent

Whilst I may now be based up in Edinburgh there are still a few posts to share from my time almost at the opposite end of the country in Kent. One such post is about Mote park in Maidstone. When I think of it I think of times spent there with my cousins during the school summer holidays when my Uncle used to take us there, doubtless to burn some energy off and get us out from under our Grandma's feet for awhile. I have no recollection of who we saw though so I'm guessing it was no one that great. Then when I was working in London but still living in Maidstone the Radio 1 Big Weekend came to the park and this time Madonna (yes the actual Madonna came to my hometown) headlined and other good bands played too. …

Six Months On

We've been back in the UK now about six months and after sharing my thoughts about being back after a month I thought it would be interesting to see what's changed over the last five months. As part of thinking about this post I re-read my one month in post (coincidentally my most popular post, so far) and from the place I'm now in it makes quite a depressing read. However it was good to air those thoughts here (I'm sure I'm not the only person to have felt that way and won't be the last) and it's encouraging to see how much my mindset has changed these past five months.

So what's different? Well if you've read any of my other posts or follow me on any forms of social media you'll be aware we're no longer living with my parents or in Kent. Relocating to Edinburgh (even though I've only been here a month) has helped no end and once we finally get our shipment from Singapore (very soon now) things will no doubt be better still. Just after w…
